Las Vegas!
I shall start this post on a low-note: We took a domestic flight to Las Vegas on the 27th November 2016, via the Southwest Airlines. After we checked in MGM Grand Hotel, I realised that I had left my bantal busuk in the airplane. You know, my heart sank when I recall last seeing it at my seat and didnt pack it inside my handbag when I left the plane. I cried myself to sleep. Now, I am in the quest of finding the right replacement. But nothing beats the pokemon bantal busuk lor…
That aside, let’s just recall the good times yea? We walked down the Vegas Strip that same night we arrived at Las Vegas, had dinner at White Castle and ooooh their sliders are sooo delicious. The buns are so soft and it really melts in my mouth. Too yummy that we came back for it on the last day in Vegas before we depart to San Francisco. After the night walk, we head back to our room and had a good rest, because we need to be up by 5am to take our rental car. Unfortunately, I had problems peeing and suspected that I had another round of UTI. The long flights made me ‘tahan’ my pee. The whole trip to the doctors cost me USD$180! The pills made me want to puke too! I was on the pill for the whole week after. What a bummer! Moral of the story – pee frequently especially on long flights and bring a bottle/cup into the lavatory and make sure I wash thoroughly. Thankfully, the return trip back to SG was better – well, I made sure I pee every few hours! Because we had to visit the Clinic and Pharmacy, it took us the entire half of the day. We planned to leave Vegas and head to our camping site near Grand Canyon by 7am but got delayed. We only left Vegas at about 1230pm. We literally had about 4 hours of daylight. The drive was definitely more than 4 hours! Cold and snowy too. Kudos to Irman – he drove most of it esp in the night because I am too scared to drive. PS: I better bring my driving license too! I drove the roads of America without any driving license, that’s risky! Anyways, we finally reach our camping site – dark and cold. We even pitched the tent in total darkness and it started to snow again! With no knowledge on the area we pitched our tent, we decided to just face the ‘front’ (wherever we think the front is). After the tent is up, we start to transport our ‘barang-barang’ from the car to the tent. Had some snacks and by 9pm, we are asleep. It was really chilly. Irman was snoring…. I just keep on tossing and turning… At midnight, I woke him up saying I am too cold. So, we seek for some heat – in the CAR! At 1am, we were just snacking, turn up the heater, dry our socks and warm up our heatpacks. By 2am, we went back to the tent to sleep again. By 330pm, we woke up again feeling too cold! After which, we just stayed in the car… Irman cooked some breakfast and after which, we slowly packed and hit the road to Grand Canyon. Well, the view was amazing, if only we reach earlier to the campsite the previous day. Nonetheless, we are glad we stayed a night! Did I mention to you it was the first winter/snow day for Arizona! I was just thinking of a hot bath the entire time! Yes, indeed we got our hot bath back in Paris Hotel Las Vegas. Phewwwwww. When I shared the photos with my mum (I tend to give live updates to her), she often say ‘Is this even a holiday?’. Truth be told, I have no regrets, because I wont be able to this when I am older. Wait till I share with you our Yosemite story….
As for Grand Canyon, we will come back again in Summer. Hiking in Winter is just not safe! Too slippery and too cold. The view is just – white! So, after a short walk near the Grand Canyon Visitor Centre and the Mather View Point, we drove back to Las Vegas. I think it was about 4 hours drive back… We were tooooo happy to see the sun and the heat (definitely hotter than Grand Canyon although it is about 10-12 degrees in Vegas). But, I was sleeping when Irman was quietly panicking, cos we were low on gas when we were about 20-30mins away from Vegas…. Lucky we found a gas station on one of the exits! Soon after, we checked into our hotel, get a hot bath and ready for a date night!
We had dinner at Nathan’s Hotdog and took the roller coaster at Newyork Newyork. Then, walked down the strip once more and back to hotel for a goodnight sleep! Ready for San Francisco!
